Even if income polarization is moderate in the Stockholm region, data on income levels fairly clearly discriminate with respect to forms of tenure (Table 7.1 and Figure 7.1). Households residing in rental dwellings have lower levels of income, especially disposable incomes. They have less accumulated savings and receive on average more housing allowances than do households residing in owner-occupied or cooperative dwellings. Disposable income discriminates better than gross income because it refers to the total family income and not to incomes for individuals. Furthermore, it is adjusted for positive and negative economic transfers between the public sector and the household.
